Perhaps the best solution is to have a dialog box pop up when you try to accept a traded customized item that wasn't customized for you: "You are about to trade for an item that is customized for another player, proceed?" (Yes/No). That way people can still have the freedom to show them off and such and pass them around (for whatever reason), while people looking for a weapon cannot "miss" it and accidentally buy a useless piece of junk.

Umm...why don't you just salvage it and then sell that off? I've done that before, and I'd never buy a customized item with the intention of salvaging unless it was a singular upgrade though even then I've never seen people attempting to sell them.

It seems like a really small detail to keep in trading just to add in a message, just remove it altogether and salvage. If people can't figure out what customized means on the weapon themselves, then you're going to need to explain "You are about to trade for an item that is customized for another player, this means only that player can use this item and there is no way to customize it to yourself, meaning you are only able to salvage this item for materials or else sell it to a merchant. Proceed?" That seems a bit lengthy though and people could still unknowingly press this thinking it is another accept or something (I do seem to recall a game where there was a second accept screen), inability to trade would solve any sort of disputes, and if you customized it, you should take the risk of not getting posssibly the best upgrade you had wanted from it.

if it was a quest reward, you can't salvage it. so that coulda been the problem.

It could have been, don't know though. Either which way, a customized item warning message during trade would be good enough for me. I'd hate to see someone buy a 800+ customized item...

I havent seen this point raised yet but it may be there but...

If you got to re-customized stuff then you could have some one go to the forge get ful knight armour go to say Ascalon and give to a lowbie. Which would defy the knight armour being and plate mail (for example) as being a symbol that you have acchived that far. And where woudl the fun be in the PvP arena if one of the opponents was in platemail when all ur side has is ring mail.

Re-customization woudl make the game un-fair.

and this is my first post so hi =D
